Grant Black joined Northern  in 2024 as an Invasive Species Biologist. 

Grant is responsible for assisting in the oversight and maintenance of  lakes, canals, natural preserves and created wetlands throughout the District. He assists with planning, coordinating, and monitoring of invasive vegetation control operations within District natural areas and environmentally sensitive lands.  He is in charge of the photo monitoring project, which records the condition of lakes, marshes and preserves for changes over time. He has or has had FDACS certifications of Aquatics (Florida and Illinois), Public Health (in over 5 states), Natural Areas, Right-of-Way, Stormwater Inspection, Research & Demonstration, Turf & Ornamental, and the Controlled Pesticide Officer license.

He previously worked with SOLitude Lake Management (formerly Clarke Aquatics Services), where he was an Operations Manager. He has field knowledge of aquatic and upland plants – identifying invasive and native –as well as prescribing Integrated Pest Management solutions. He is also cross-trained in Public Health, mosquito biology, behavior, and sampling methods.
